Before the racecourse was built, Bromford Bridge was farmland
and belonged to a area called ( The Five Fields) which stretched from St.
Margaret's Road across to the present Bromford Bridge estate and up to the Fox
and Goose Pub.
On the Bromford Bridge estate the street names tell the story, Reynoldstown
Road, Haydock Close, Redcar Croft, Newmarket Way.
They are almost the only reminders of what the 1965 Tote Racing Annual Described
as " one of the best racecourses in England"
BROMFORD BRIDGE
Almost but not quite, In the midst of the present housing estate beside the M6,
children play on the old parade ring,
with its crazy paving a legacy of the war years.
